Californians Approve Proposition 2

As a long-time and active member of The Humane Society of United States, I am glad that prop 2 was passed! Californians have spoken.

Proposition 2 passed with more than 60% of voters taking a stand against the mistreatment of farm animals. This measure ends the practice of confining veal calves, egg-laying hens and breeding pigs in crates and cages so small the animals can barely move over the course of their entire lives.

As a result, we brought forth a new, more compassionate age.

The President The Humane Society of the United States wrote to us: Giving farm animals a little extra room to stretch their limbs, to move like animals should, is a small matter for us humans. But it’s a very big thing for a hen who would otherwise be confined with a half-dozen other birds in a cage about as big as a filing cabinet for her whole life. It’s a really big thing for a sow who would otherwise be stuck in a crate so small she couldn’t turn around. It’s a way big thing for a calf who would spend life chained inside a miserably tiny crate.

Brother Lee once said that you can tell how much a person loves the Lord by observing the way they treat the animal. I think being humane to animals is one of the good human virtues that express God's divine attribute.

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. Of course, the real and everlasting kindness is God Himself.
